Louis Frederick Pollman, 84, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on August 3, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Louis was born September 16, 1932, in California, Missouri, the second son of Harry and Ella (Schmutz) Pollman. He was raised on a farm outside of California and attended California High School, graduating in 1950. He met a girl named Hulda Kusgen during his senior year-Louis and Hulda were married on June 1, 1952. Louis joined the United States Air Force in 1953, serving his country proudly in Korea and stateside until his honorable discharge in 1957. Louis and Hulda settled in south Kansas City in 1963 with their three children. He had a strong work ethic, almost always holding down two jobs to support his family. Louis had a long career with Xerox, where he serviced copiers for the Grandview and Lee's Summit School Districts. He enjoyed "the weather" and meteorology-he was also fascinated with the science of airplanes/aircraft and always said he would've been a pilot if not for his poor eyesight! He was involved with Boy Scouts. But most of all, Louis loved the Lord and his family. He was very involved with his church through the years, sponsoring youth groups and exemplifying a Christian life to all he knew. Louis participated in the Lee's Summit TGIW (Teaching God's Infinite Wisdom) weekly meetings for Christian men, until his declining health kept him at home.
He and Hulda took their kids (and later the grandkids, too) on memorable vacations to the Smoky Mountains, Washington, DC, Colorado, Europe, Hawaii, and the Dominican Republic. He was a fixture for many years at his grandchildren's sporting events: basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, football, track, he was known as Grandpa to their whole teams! Louis valued learning and education - he was especially proud that all of his grandchildren earned college degrees. Most of all, he was a kind and positive husband, brother, son, dad and Grandpa.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Klint Andrews. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hulda of the home; his daughters Cheryl (Kevin) Atwood and Debbie (Keith) Andrews; his son Wayne (Lisa) Pollman, all of Lee's Summit, MO; seven grandchildren - Kyle (Lauren) Andrews, Michelle (Ben) Fiedler, Amy (Casey) McCambridge, Jared (Addie) Atwood, Ashley (Matt) Scrogham, Krista (David) Keeler, and Derek (Allison) Atwood; 13 great-grandchildren - Carter, Grayson and Bennett Andrews; Jackson and Lily Fiedler; Chase, Keylee and Kendall McCambridge; Will and Miles Atwood; Tenley and Rilynn Scrogham; and Maxwell Atwood. Louis also leaves his brother Rev. Jesse (Donna) Pollmann of St Louis, MO, and many other extended family members and friends.
His wife and family want to especially thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg for their loving support and care of Louis during the past two years.
His life will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 9 at The Summit Church (Lee's Summit United Methodist Church), 2nd & Douglas in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Visitation will be at 9:30am - funeral to follow at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Missouri Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, Missouri 64093 or The Summit Church, 114 SE Douglas Street, Lee's Summit, Missouri 64063
